The Team

The summer season recently ended for the Charlotte 5-on-5 Ultimate league. This season I’ve been a part of “The Team”, a crack Ultimate unit framed for a crime we didn’t commit. We were sent to a maximum security prison where we promptly escaped. Now we patrol the fields at Park Road Park forcing flick and tossing hammers…but I digress.
This was a fun team to play on the last few months. We ended up first place at the end of the regular season. Once the playoffs began we promptly found our way to the Championship where we promptly lost to my buddy Theological Ted’s team. I suppose if I have to lose I may as well lose to one of my elders.
Being one that does a poor job talking to people I don’t know I have to take advantage of things Ultiamte leagues. These are places where I can meet people outside of my normal day to day life. Good people like Never-Aging Neal, Mountain Missin’ Mike, and All Around Ultimate Ace Andy.
“The Team” is a good team made up of good people. Win or lose we find ourselves at Angry Ale’s enjoying a drink and laughing. Two things I do enjoy far to infrequently.

The New River Trail, VA

This past Saturday Sonnet Studyin’ Steven and I rode our bikes down a section of the New River Trail. The New River Trail is a trail that was created by the Rails-to-Trails program in Virginia. Essentially, an unused railroad track is converted into a footpath. Walkers, bicyclists, and horses are allowed on these trails.
This particular trail stretches from Pulaski, VA to Galax, a distance of fifty miles stretching alongside the picturesque New River.
We met at a lovely Borders in North Charlotte Friday afternoon and quickly found ourselves speeding along I-77 towards the Virginia/North Carolina border. As we entered the fine state of Virginia I blasted my horn to let the Virginians know we arrived. Soon after that we arrived at Foster Falls Village campsite. We proceded to set up camp and await the coming of dawn. While we were waiting for dawn to rear it’s pleasant smile we discussed many things while engulfed in the pleasant aroma of Vanilla Black Cavendish.
One memorable strain of the conversation was the necessity of love in becoming a man. Love in the sense of 1 Corinthians 13. I would like to write more on this, but not tonight.
After we ate breakfast and packed up our campsite we off toward Galax, VA. I had a goal of riding my bike 20 miles since I had never made a ride like this before. That I did, and I’m looking forward to continuing on many trails to come on my bike.
